Product Description
Barrel-fired ceramic spherical sculpture with terra sigilata finish, this piece has been hand sculpted by David, in his studio, Dorset.
The ceramic is fired at 900c prior to barrel-firing.
The barrel-firing technique uses wood, straw and hay, and achieves beautiful colours and unpredictable surface patterns through adding organic materials. Discarded fruit skins, seaweed, inorganic chemicals such as iron-oxide and salt are added to the barrel-wood fire to achieve this.
Once the cooling process is completed the vase is washed, dried and a layer of beeswax is applied to add a protective finish.
